Old Post Why do I have so many settlers?

A weird thing is happening. In The Slog I have 98 settlers but I have only built 15 homes & the same for other plots. I don't understand why they keep coming. I got the limit for unemployed settlers set at +3. The same has happened at Abernathy. Other settlements seem ok for now.
 
PS: I build my own settlements. Have i not selected something correctly? My settlements can't deal with so many settlers & causes a game crash.
 
Can you post your mod list? I have never seen this happen before. Organic recruitment should be limited by your charisma stat. Since you build your own cities, the recruitment is not affected by the city plan limit, which is still limited by charisma, unless you chose ignore charisma in the recruitment options.

Also please screen shot the recruitment settings and post them here.

If you want to at least salvage your savegame from the crashes, use mods that despawn settlers, like this: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/30011

I actually have 111 settlers at Abernathy with only 14 beds (probably same in jobs). Lots of unemployed & homeless Commonwealth freeloaders. :)

Please post your mod list and the screencap of your recruitment settings (either in MCM or in holotape). This is so unusual I would like to reproduce the same. Even with stat stacking the most I could get was 40 settlers in one settlement, but yours, according to your report, came via recruitment?
 
Not sure how to get a mod list from Vortex. I'm not going to write out the 200+ I have.

and look for
plugins.txt

For now you’re going to need to turn “Ignore Charisma, off” in the halotape/MCM.

Ok Cassandra, someone will be along to spray-on moisturize.

I wish I had settlers coming in like that. Brahmin however . . . they just don't stop. Thank goodness for MJC's brahmin butcher. I found that setting it to two in those settlements with kids results in zero. Ha!
 
I have this problem too when designing my own settlements.
My main concern is I, uh -- I hate the defaults for those tiny settlement areas like Zimonji and Hangmans Alley (I start looking for something and the ramps and stuff throw me off. I have the same issue in Markarth in Skyrim, so it's a me thing.). Is there any way to set it to recruit no more settlers than I have beds+Residential plots?

In general no (SS will either limit it to the city design or your charisma, or if you chose ignore charisma, you'll be flooded). For OZ/HA, I just turned off recruitment there and just transferred people from other settlements (5-6 only). You can also disable the recruitment there (don't build recruitment radio) and use other mods that adds settlers (spawn settlers and whatnot)

Alternatively you can probably design a city using the add-on mod and specify it with low pop only. Will be a bit tedious, but since you can rebuild it in any playthrough, it will be worth it.
