So .. you're curious about doing some modding? But have no idea where to start .. I'm exactly there right now. Maybe there's already a thread like this somewhere here at the forum that I missed, then I'll turn this into a link to that thread. Until then I'll dump some useful links and other stuff here as I stumble on 'em.

Links
Video tutorials Kinggath's
Creation Kit - note you find most content under the Skyrim pages (tutorials etc)
Builders tool kit - nexus page
Discord app - visit the Discord thread to request an invite

From Kinggath's Creation Kit 101 pdf (which you find in the Builder's Toolkit bundle at Nexus, link in post above):

"watch some of the tutorials by darkfox127. His tutorials are actually for Skyrim, but the Creation Kit used for Skyrim is nearly identical to that for Fallout so a lot of the
same lessons apply. If you’d prefer to only watch tutorials about Fallout, I’d recommend videos by Seddon4494.

Both of those youtubers are very thorough and keep things simple. Even if you don’t follow along, but just
watch and listen, it will all start to click!"

I downloaded the toolkit docs from Nexus. Is there an API for experienced Papyrus scripters? Some things I'd like to do:
  • Create plots/areas that are reserved for specific NPCs to build on. Specifically, my Scavver who builds atop Vault 111 every time he completes his route loop. Hard coded location is incompatible for many players, so it would be nice to let player zone an area for Scavver in Sanctuary. Or for Piper to build a printing press, etc. Then NPCs could be scripted to find plots in the area for personal use.
  • Automate the city process even further so player can stumble across random mega cities every new game (this one is more of a pipe dream atm)
  • I'm sure there are other things that could be done with scripting, like a store that hands out free ice cream when the weather is clear, etc.
  • I wouldn't dream of asking for these features when the project is already a full plate. Plus, a programmer's workshop that tangently connects as an add-on or something sounds like a fun sandbox to experiment in.
I see things are highly organized. If there's a better thread for programmers just nudge me that way ;-)

Yeah. At Discord ... as soon as the mayhem around the RotC release settles (Kinggath is currently working around the clock (the support team is mostly trying to get him to sleep some, so I won't put any load on him just yet)) you'll get an invite. Could take a couple of days still. Sorry for the wait.

Heya! I'm so into interior plots I'd love to design some, but I'm on xbox. My laptop would definitely NOT run Fallout, could I still use the app on it? i.e. do I just need the disk or does it have to install?

Also what does it take to port things to xbox? Obviously I would want to make plots I could use :)

In order to use creation kit, you must have Fallout and the Creation Kit installed. While you may be able to run the Creation Kit without much of an issue, you'd have no way of testing the mod unless you find a couple of testers. However, you could always design plots on your Xbox and get in touch with an add on author and see if they'd be willing to create it based off of screenshots. Before I got a decent computer that is able to play Fallout on medium settings, I originally did what I described above, designed a plot around the theme of uituit's Junk Town and he was kind enough to make a plot and include it in his add on.

@sofaking6 if you don't have a pal already lined up to help you with testing etc, you and I could team up. Mind you that I haven't made my first mod yet though. Still studying howtos.

Thank you so much! I think I might start with designing some on the xbox and putting up screenshots, to see if there is interest, because I'm pretty sure if I start making mods I'll be buying a new computer.

That's an awesome idea, thank you so much! It's just too awesome, I'm obsessed with these little plots right now.

I have looked all over and cannot find the creationkit. I have run a search on my computer and looked all over the places I thought I'd be able to download it from. I am new to modding and already am failing miserably. Any help to get me pointed in the right direction is appreciated.

You have to install the Creation Kit from the Bethesda.net Launcher https://bethesda.net/en/dashboard At the top right of the page is the Launcher download... from the launcher there are several options, one being to download and install the CK
