Creation Kit crashing on making SCOL

Hey everyone. So I'm trying to follow site's tutorial on first building model. And after I put in a ID for the SCOL and press ok, a busy spinning circle pops up and creation kit crashes. I installed it and have tried it many times with different items.
Any idea on what is going on?

Ahhhh. I remember this frustration.

The secret is in the name. Static COLlection. i.e. static objects. If you have any other object type, the CK does weird things if you try to SCOL them. I have seen some pretty crazy graphical effects when creating a static out of some of them.

There is one more important fact to this. If you make a nif from a SCOL (new static) and try to add that to the SCOL you will encounter the same thing. I went through a lot of this. Most of the clutter statics from SS2 are made from SCOLs. It took some questions on the SS2 addon author's discord to figure this out. You may want to request to join.
There usually someone around that will have an answer for beginner questions. Once you get more to the advanced level, its mostly by trial and error (mostly error) to figure things out.

The moral of the story is, if you can't make a SCOL, double check all selected objects and make sure they are static. If you are using any SS2 custom assets, there is a chance it was made from a SCOL and can not be used to make a new one.

Regarding this. Some vanilla statics are these made from SCOLs and will crash the CK upon SCOLing them, those will just have to go in as spawned items. Just saying, in case you're certain you only included statics in the SCOL.

-facepalm- OH NO. I misread the tutorial and thought that it could crash if it was a SCOL issue when I pressed alt+ o. WHOOPS.
I had a suspicion it must have been a mistake on my end. XD

Ahhhhh okay so no adding onto an old SCOL. Gotcha.
Thanks for answering another of my questions msalaba!
And thanks also to MsBathory!

You certainly can add onto an old SCOL, you just need to fragment it first (Alt+U) and then reSCOL to include your additions. Make sure you have the right layer active before fragmenting, that's where the pieces from that SCOL will end up.

ohhh!!
(taking notes)
Time to play around. Thanks!

Good advice. I still do this. :grin
Another good one is make sure you have a pivot dummy and it is at 0,0,0 before creating a SCOL. This one can cause you to wonder why your spawned object it in a weird position.

You didn't miss-read. The CK runs on the power of :todd: and can crash by sitting idle. I think the only time I haven't had the CK crash is when compiling scripts. fingers crossed

Okay all I am hearing is that for CK to not crash on me is to make a todd howard shrine?
Hey! The new one picked up real quick. Much faster than I did. My Shrine is still not done.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like it's unusable. But let's just say if you get violently angry at a software that crashes...

WTF are you doing in a Bethesda game related forum, first of all? But the CK is no different. It can do a lot, crashing is only one of it's speacial features.

P.S. My Shrine is to the prefix. Quite literally.

I'm taking notes! :D. Still need to figure out the offerings that Todd likes best.

Well I definitely have been making more tea since is started T_T. Gosh I remember the first time I booted up fo4 on launch day it crashed even with no mods XD.

And I reallyyyy need to track down a SCOL fragment tutorial at some point. It still crashed at the section even after I thought I fragmented it then rescoled it. Oh well. At least the vertipad worked! XD

Holy shit that's fantastic XDDD

Yep. It is fantastic.

As for tutorials. BETHESDA MOD SCHOOL. It's on YouTube, made by Kinggath himself and you have virtually every tutorial you could ever want to make a Sim settlement addon or just a mod too. As for the SCOL, I believe it only accepts static objects. Do you have anything that is not considered a static?
