Frustrated... one dumb part..

this game pisses me off,, and excites me at the same time.. very frustrating at times.. My caravan wont go up in tiers.. so i cannot drop beacons.. annoying. I have 20 people.. high in every category, etc. communications is at 1. caravan stuck at 0. Dumb that we cannot see how far the caravans reach... When trying to build the commonwealth knowing how to accomplish something; and seeing what you have available to build ''with'' is crucial,, its very frustrating not being able to see both of those. In other words, Its frustrating when you dont know how to build the out the sims, how to expand, how to grow, when things are more complicated than they should.. Sorry, just frustrated.. at the same time.. love the mod. (the story telling and missions are epic, highest rating. The building, near the bottom, not smooth)

Caravan at level 0? That means it never built it at all. Does it even have someone assigned to it?
For plots to upgrade, the requirements as a general rule are enough food/water/defense according to those meters on the HUD (which should be full), settlement Happiness at 70+, at least 3 ingame days to have passed, and pretty sure most plots need power to be able to upgrade too. If you have the "HOLO HUD" turned on, there should be a third row of those icons hovering above each plot that shows you what they are missing using emojis.

They would also need enough resources to build/upgrade - either from your Workbench if you didn't turn that off, or from the "Virtual Storage" as shown on the HUD element up in the top right.

Okay.. I might have a situation where i have to many plots and not enough peeps.. that could be one thing. Second, my resources are full, max, and might not be receiving crucial resources i need to build or upgrade.. But, what do you mean by ''workbench, if you didnt turn that off'' ?? So, I might need to destroy some plots, reassign some people, build another storage container i guess,,, and donate some rare materials(which i have no idea what those are..).... In regards to power, water, and defense.. Does vanilla accomplish the same goal??? meaning, if im low on asam can i drop down a generator and supply power to the plots to accomplish the same goal??? thanks Yaugie

Yes any vanilla objects will work fine too.

I just linked the wiki page in another thread, this one here, which lists what resource is in what category:

There's an option you can change so that SS2 can't use any resources you have in the vanilla Workbench for building, but it's on by default so you'd need to have changed it yourself.

I let it use them, and try to build up at least one each of the 'resource generation' Industrials asap.

If you want room to donate resources into, yeah. From memory a Caravan Plot costs about 200 total to build, split between Building and Organic. They will generate 2 Organic per day too once built (fertilizer from the brahmin's droppings, I guess)

Dont forget that Industrial Plots also increase that storage capacity by 600×plot level too.

so, do i build more containers?
Generally I start off with 1 or 2 of the large shipping containers, and also building an Industrial plot pretty early on. I generally try to get a Caravan Services going as soon as possible. For 1st settlement, if not playing on Automated & especially on Hardcore(Scrap Components) it's probably a good idea to have a bit of resources to donate upfront to help start things off

I think im getting a hang of this game... My first town was in graygarden after starting at the Drive in... tried switching main towns.. and it was a mess from the beginning....So, graygarden didnt start out correctly and nothing worked.. I just go unlucky on how I started.. however, with everyones help im i think i have a grasp for the game now. I still cant the guy who wants you to take out ghouls assigned to a clinic.. Some npc is working the clinic and i cannot unassign and assign npcs... so i think hes quest is broken.

That specific quest has always been a bit finicky, although its still on the list of ones I have literally never seen for myself ingame somehow; try building just a basic Scavenger Station (the vanilla one) and moving the person currently on the Clinic job to that temporarily.

I don't remember if the robots at greygarden counts as settlers. If that is the case the happiness there will be short and nothing will upgrade

They count as Robot Settlers for me (although that might be additional mods), with everything that means - including that "fixed happiness" that defaults to 50. I use WSFW's setting for that to change Robots to be 'fixed' at 80, personally.
