What If I removed the mod...

this game is so frustrating.. I tried adding resources.. then it says settlers gave it back to me...?? frustrated. caravan wont go up in tier! frustrated.. build a power plant.. wont get built! build a water plant,, it just sits there.. lay down sensor, then beacon,, nothing happens.. dont know how far caravans go.. the definition of caravan is confusing.. are they moving goods back and forth like the supply line.. or are they gathering junk from beacons?? please someone help.. I want to play this mod.. and enjoy it. thank you
If they gave it back to you - it sounds like you don't have any storage. If you look at the screenshot above from @yaugieLC you can see in the HUD that he has that hammer and wrench icon with 4846/10000 - that means he has 4846 virtual resources stored out of his total capacity of 10,000. If your number there is equal to its max, you need to build more storage. That can be found in the SS2 section of the workshop menu in an icon that looks like a shipping container.

Either that or you tried to donate something that isn't junk (like a gun, or ammo, or chems, or food - the current donation system only supports junk). For things like guns or armor, you will want to scrap them at a workbench and then donate the scrap. Provided, of course, you build more storage. That may be why your buildings aren't building either - buildings will only build if you have the right amount of virtual resources to pay for construction. Power plants and water plants require things like rare materials and machine parts - and if you don't have any industrials that provide those then it won't build until you either donate those resources or build industrial plots that can provide them.

That happens if your virtual containers are full or if you haven't placed any yet. You also might check your settings. In my case, I am using vanilla beds instead of residential plots. I changed an Immersion setting to "Population" so that commercial plots would trigger (they depend on the number and level of residences you have going). Advancement can also depend on other factors like happiness or number of settlers. In my playthrough right now, my commercial plots and caravans suddenly started building after lingering unoperated for quite a while.

Caravans generate a "provisioner line" between settlements within range without you needing someone else doing it - the range is roughly Sanctuary->Tenpines.
They also "link together" the "Virtual Storage" of settlements - the thing up in the top right of the HUD; in this screenshot I've attached, only 100 of that storage is actually at The Castle here, and even then because I build one of the small storage crates (under the SS2 submenu in the Build Menu) in every settlement. The Castle here is getting all of its Food from other settlements, too, because the Caravans can 'redistribute' excess food/water between the settlements they're in as needed to keep every settlement's meters full if it can.

The caravan plot's worker doesn't travel back and forth along the link, though, they only leave when you call them out for a Salvage/Mk1 Beacon run. This shouldn't affect the functionality of the plot itself.
My screen hud has 5900 caps, then 8600/8600 resources??, then 8200 wheel barrel, 260 of the canister with a leaf, 330 with gears, and 85 with the bio or last icon.. It appears my resources are full.. To be clear I did build a massive storage container but apparently its full.. Now, I guess im full of materials i dont need,, and cannot receive materials I DO need for some projects, which makes sense.. guessing!. I dont understand where you are getting '100 of that storage is actually at the castle' from your example...... And I probably have overbuilt plots which makes some plots not ''assigned'' or ''man'd''. I tried taking a screenshot but cant find the pic on my pc... lol.. Thought i was savvy but apparently being 41 isnt savvy anymore.. BTw... i guess seeing the brauhmins shaking/stuck inside the plot isnt a big deal?? I just assumed it worked itself out if they were stuck....

I am trying to donate junk.. to dive deeper into what is needed to craft which plots.... how can I know that? meaning, what parts do power plants need? you say rare and machine parts but what does that translate to inside the game? and how could i know that??? thank you LB

The 31 'basic resources' of the base game are split into those four categories, documented on this wiki page.

Thx, but how do i know which plot requires which resources? If its not being built.. how do i know what it needs? thx
If you go up to the ASAM of that plot and hit the "start construction" option that should be in that menu that pops up, it should tell you what it wants. With the ones you're missing 'greyed out' like in this image below (in which I am lacking on Lead and Concrete).

I am so laughing.....I have sons older than you. But be this is at may, IMO, this mod has a steep learning curve. I found SS1 had a steep learning curve, but SS2 adds in more learning challenges. Bring it ON. I love intellectual challenges. It keeps the brain young.

Just to clarify this line I missed in there; it's because I know that I only built one of the small 'storage crates' (the treasure chest looking ones that are only maybe 2 and a half foot tall) there. The rest of that storage capacity was at other settlements that are all linked together via the Caravan Plot system. If you toggle the HUD's "Report Level" you can get it to show you that, like so:
ScreenShot129.png
(that's one of said "treasure chest looking ones" over there roughly where I'm looking)
It doesn't normally really matter whether something is 'local' or 'global', though. I just like being able to keep track of that.

Yaugie and others have been beyond helpful and I respect their time to give advice and help others, truly. Thank you to the whole community.

I have not seen this distinction in the pic you have shown, however what you say kinda makes sense. thanks. Maybe I am not seeing the hud correctly, or not at all.

By default I think it only shows up when you are in Build Mode and even then only the "total" tab. I change those settings myself to "always show".

always show
Never Autohide (whatever) ;) Always show was SS1.
If you have MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) installed, you can do all this in the MCM menu under SS2 > HUD. (and setup hotkeys) Otherwise you will have to use the tools in the City Manager holotape under HUD.

And still laughing....I am a woman, a mother but not grandmother (my sons have proven slow to procreate). That mistake sometimes happens when I use my other online name "Lauri Bleu," which is a male name in Europe, but still happens with NeuBleu. But you are right, the community here has been fabulous.
